It is incredibly difficult to start a website these days.

It goes like this:

1. You have a great idea for a site.
2. You manage to buy a nifty domain name.
3. Next: work, work, work. Late nights, self-taught coding, even ssh-ing to your site from work.
4. Yea! It's ready, and you "launch."

"Launch?" Yeah, right. Your site is up and running and nobody is clicking on it.

• Your database isn't filling up with user contributed content.
• Your Google-checkout account still says $0.00.
• Your Alexa ranking is either not there or has 7 digits in it.
• You don't get your Adwords check because your balance is under $100 for the month.
• Your Google "link:" search come up with 3 links, all from your own site.
• Your analytics map shows one huge bubble over the world-map: the city you live in.

You don't really know if your site is a good idea or not, because no one is clicking on it. It's very demoralizing.
